Happy 43rd National Day

Oh, I almost forgot to say this here.

Happy 43rd National Day, Singapore!

I like National Day parades because the ceremonial uniforms are very cool and for the first time, seeing a pilot on TV also made me realize that men-in-action are basically very cool.

Of course some men in whatever type of action never do seem cool at all.

And hearing the national anthem is kind of nice too. Can feel that patriotism rising up in me. Heh.

Leap Year

It is now 29th February, the day which occurs only once every four years. Quite amazing. It reminds me of Daylight Saving Time (DST) where an extra hour occurs in one of the days.

February 29th 2008 is also a Leap Day which occurs only once every 28 years. A Leap Day is one where the day of the week which 29th February occurs on is the same as the day of the week in a previous Leap Year. Well, that means every Leap Year's 29th February will have its own Leap Day turn.

Do you know why Leap Year occurs? I believe the reason is similar to why there is DST, only that we don't adjust our calendar back one day as in DST.

Using a calendar with 365 days every year would result in a loss of 0.2422 days, or almost six hours per year. After 100 years, this calendar would be more than 24 days ahead of the season (tropical year), which is not desirable or accurate. It is desirable to align the calendar with the seasons and to make any difference as insignificant as possible.

By adding a leap year approximately every fourth year, the difference between the calendar and the seasons can be reduced significantly, and the calendar will align with the seasons much more accurately.

Learn more about the Leap Year here and here.

Couple of people I know are going to watch the show The Leap Years, which will be shown in cinemas today. I'm afraid I don't quite see what's so special about it. It's a romance and I don't really believe in spending money on watching romantic films.

Hmm, I wonder if there will actually be women who propose to men on this day, or if there will be more proposals/marriages on this day in general. Then their marriage anniversary will only occurs once every 4 years?!

Leap Year. Stupid hamster escaped again, ran into my room, skidded across my room and is right now taking refuge in the packed storeroom. Brother is cursing the hamster and telling it not-so-gently to f***ing come out if not its babies will die. Ok, I'm going to join him in waiting for the hamster to come out.

除夕!

It's that time of the year again! Reunion dinner tonight and then time to wake up early tomorrow. Hmm, ok, maybe no need to wake up early tomorrow since nobody actually comes over so early after my grandmother passed away.

I have a few friends overseas - Benison, Jenny and Aimei. Don't know if Cindy's back for new year but I should think so. Benison and his friend opened a container of pineapple tarts as a way of celebration. Great way to celebrate. Actually, he doesn't even know if that counts as a celebration. But I do know that he has been checking my blog quite often. JENNY ALSO BEEN CHECKING MY BLOG OFTEN! Aimei usually checks my blog often, but can tell she's been busy with work lately. UPDATE YOUR BLOG MORE OFTEN, AIMEI!

So here's wishing all of you Chinese readers and friends, whether locally or overseas (In Los Angeles, Canada, Malaysia, Korea or Australia) a happy 除夕夜!

Haha, tomorrow then wish you all Happy Lunar New Year.

Happy New Year 2008

Happy New Year!

=D

Wishing all of you a great year ahead! Those who need to do better in studies, hope you will do better (go and study)! Those who need to grow taller, go and grow taller (eat more and jump more)! Those who wish to grow prettier, hope you will grow prettier (go and visit beauty saloon). Those who need to grow younger... er... a bit difficult.

To all you readers and friends, thanks for the support over the past year through exams, fears and death. I really appreciate it very much.

Start of a new year and the first emotion I felt was anger and disappointment. What the heck. What is the point. I think this is enough from me already. I tried very hard, very tired already. Am trying too hard, wanting too much, thinking too far, dwelling too long. New year, new beginning, don't want to go back again so I'm letting go. This time I'm striving to accept and not to turn back.

And I'm officially sick on the first day of the New Year.

I came home from a show just now on the last night of 2007 and I was walking past people, going in the opposite direction. I looked at people with friends, families and couples. I was alone but not lonely. You know how I've always wanted to find that person meant for me? At that moment it didn't matter that much because inside I felt great. Maybe you exist, maybe you don't, but I love you now anyway, and for now that's enough.

Bye bye 2007, I've learned plenty the past year. You sure have taught me a lot but I don't want to go back there again. You are the harshest year I've ever gone through and I'm glad you're over.

Hello 2008. I know you have more to teach me, but I hope you'll be a little gentler. For some reason, I feel there's something calmer and promising about 2008. Hope it is the case. See you when it's brighter.
