Statistics makes me happy

I know this will sound very weird.

Statistics really make me very happy. I think math in general makes me very happy. But I'm not very good at them both and very often I am confused and blur when trying to analyze them, but it's nice to deal with them anyway.

So yar, statistics make me happy.

Upset

Sometimes all I want is her. Closet bi-sexual. Or just desiring comfort?

Am feeling very upset and emotional for no particular reason at all. Perhaps because I can feel stress from school building up already.

Pre - Green Carnival 2008

Tomorrow, I mean, this coming morning, will be the official launch of Green Carnival 2008 which will also be the platform for the launch of "NUS Fights Climate Change".

Green Carnival
is proudly brought to you by SAVE. Bleh, trying to do the advert thing where there's always that "blah-blah-blah is proudly brought to you by Yeo's (pause), something (pause) and something-else".

Finally the photos are up (after some rough handling) just this evening and I just finished cutting voting slips for you all to vote. I think the voting slips look neater than the descriptions for the photos. Measuring, cutting and pasting paper is not good in wet weather - everything becomes damp and sort of crumpled. Yes, please come and vote for the photo which you feel best answers the question "What does Climate Change mean to you?" Outsiders welcome to visit too!

Well, have to wake up early tomorrow. Do check out Green Carnival 2008 at Central Forum, NUS, from 25th August (Monday) to 27th August (Wednesday). Media's coming, Guests-of-Honor are coming, everything looks neat, there are flowers around, there's a pretty stage...

It looks pretty impressive so far.

I hope the photos don't drop during the opening ceremony. *prays*

I need chocolate

I ate a chocolate muffin today because I was under pressure.

Now I need more than just chocolate muffin because my photoshop trial expired and I have a poster to rush out and I absolutely suck at designing; I have 30 (and counting) photography entries to collate on this extremely slow computer; I have not prepared for lesson tomorrow.

If you have seen this "Capturing Climate Change Photography Competition" in your NUS mails with that film-like logo, yar, that's the one I'm supposedly in-charge of. I made the logo too, but my friend did the actual poster. I told you I suck at designing.

Anyway, if you're interested in the photography competition, check out our Green Carnival website for the details. Prizes are pretty good and you don't need good photography technique - just lots of creativity as well as a decent camera which gives you a picture of minimum 500kB. You just need to tell us What Climate Change Means to You through the photo, a title and a short description.

Competition ends today at 2359 and I'm very strict about the 2359.

If you're not interested in the photography competition, you can check out the website for other stuff like free movie screening. Do also come down next Monday to Wednesday, 25th - 27th August to the exhibition at Central Forum for exhibits on environmental issues, especially climate change.

You can go look at the photos on display at Central Forum and vote for your favourite ones too!

Yar ok, now I have to go figure out a way to design a poster on MSWord, study, collate the entries and then sleep, all in one night.

My fingers hurt.

Good day

It is a good day today.

Odd how a single thing can make an overall bad day into a good one, isn't it?

My friends gave me the nicest smiles today. =)

Engine raring

I am finally ready to start being busy again. Some rest I had, abandoning tasks assigned to me. Or maybe I just needed to warm-up. In any case, it feels good.

0 point bid

I added a 6th module to bid but after adding the module I forgot to place the bid itself.

I am super hero.

First day of school

It's the first day of the new semester, a spanking new semester. My final year, finally here. So many ups and downs over the last 3 years with the highest of the "ups" the last semester and the lowest of the "downs" 3 semesters ago.

The first thing that happened today was my handphone battery went flat and somebody in class tripped over my charger wire, bringing my phone smashing down to a terrific crash from table to floor. And everyone turned to look at her. My phone still works. Heh.

Somebody behind me in the queue at arts canteen said she feels good to be back at school. Wanted to turn back and tell her "me too".

The arts canteen has added electronic cash registers at each stall and as a result, higher price for our food. Everything now becomes slower though, because auntie has to key amount into the machine. Shouldn't they charge us lower prices for the extra time spent waiting? I don't like the new prices, too expensive.

Friend says,

everything price hike
but standard nv hike

Had lunch with Ming Zhu. =) She says she's a little nervous, like when it's our first day at Secondary School during Sec 1 and 2. A little apprehensive, a little excited. I don't wish to graduate, she can't wait to graduate. It's her final semester.

Stepped into first class, Evolutionary Psychology. Said hi to a course mate I've seen around in school and he hands me a survey to fill in for his research. I giggle.

Waved hi to few more people. Jinwei comes in then Kai Qin comes in, so we sit together at the front row. Fidelia comes in next and sits next to her friend.

The 3 hour seminar starts. A/P John Elliott starts his lecture and I feel like I'm back in Developmental Psychology, only that this is a lot more interesting.

I wonder how will this semester turn out.

It really feels good to be back at school.

School's starting... and ending

I'm looking at the class rosters for the modules I'm taking this semester. Saw some very familiar names, some familiar, some recognizable, others nagging at the back of my mind. A wave of nostalgia suddenly overwhelms me and there is the urge to cry. I don't know most of them yet I feel like I know them, both at the same time.

If everything goes well, I will be graduating in a year. I miss school and my course mates already, though I hardly know them. *wipes away a tear* This is so silly.

That level-5000 module

I have a male cousin who's doing his Master studies in Psychology at NUS. Today I SMSed him about the textbook for a level 5000 statistics course, thinking that perhaps he had taken it in previous semesters before or something so I could borrow the book because the book is horrendously expensive.

He gave me the most horrific answer I have heard today,

I'm taking the same module as you this semester. Hee.

*points to sidebar* Me is undergraduate, and a very lousy one. He is Master student. I need to do some revision before going to class.

Random

It is 3am and I am still preparing ticketing stuff for tomorrow's concert. Double-checking and printing and now going to sort out money and tickets and envelopes (if I can find any). Argh.

And I can't believe I'm not allocated any modules for my next semester. Something is definitely wrong.

Nodame Cantabile

1 episode was all it took to get me hooked on the anime series Nodame Cantabile. I finished 25 episodes in 2 days and felt extremely guilty after that for spending so much time on the computer.

Nodame Cantabile
revolves around classical music, orchestras, performances and how students strive in their passion for music. At the end of the anime, I found an ache in my chest similar to the sadness we feel when a drama serial ends and we have to say goodbye to the characters we have grown so familiar to. The anime was so close to home for me that it brought back memories. There were times I could identify with it and times I wished I could.

Have you ever heard a really inspiring musician play? Although I've seen a couple of famous musicians play, the only one musician who left an impact on me is not famous. While watching the anime, I remembered her watching her play and how it had really touched me. Haha, I don't know if my mind was playing tricks on me, but her performance gave me goosebumps in a good way, something I've never really experienced before. That was the one and only time, the one and only performance to have moved me in that way. It might seem surprising if I told you she is probably my age and studying in NUS, playing in the Orchestra, as a violinist.

I wonder now if it was because I have had bare minimum contact with violins, which would explain why I was so astounded by that one performance.

In any case, I like that image I have in my mind of that evening I listened to her play on stage. Clear. Exciting. Moving.

In charge

I don't like being in charge of other people. I think I suck at being in charge of others. I'm better at being assistant to the head or something.

Ok, no matter. It's going to happen anyway. Tomorrow's recruitment for more members for the photography competition.

At least my crush's there! Just seeing his name gives me goosebumps and seeing him tomorrow might make my heart race. -_-'''
Am I the only one insane enough to openly declare I have a crush and give so many clues as to who he is? Fun!

Pre-officially-Year 4, Honours student, thoughts

Year 4 - Honours year.

For so long I've looked at the matriculation numbers of the other Year 4s before me, on the computer screens in NUS's computer labs, wondering if one day I'd be one of those matriculation numbers whom other students would look at and think "this is a Honours student's matriculation number".

For some reason, I feel really proud, though my results aren't anything to boast of. I started University full of hopes and completely naive. I've learned quite a bit in the 3 years here, things I know I'd need in order to further develop myself in the future. I've allowed myself to go through things I never thought I'd ever experience, things I would never be able to imagine. I know I still have a long way to go. However, I suspect Yan Wei will say I'm still that Stephanie who is still as easily mind-fucked. *shakes fist at Yan Wei*

I think I might cry when I log into CORS to bid for modules and see "Year 4" there (if it's written there), and it's not even my convocation ceremony!

I feel like I've waited so long to get to Honours year. Finally, I'm here. One final year. I don't want to let myself down.

NUS Exam Results Year 3 Sem 2

Opened my results page, don't dare to look. Then I looked and my hands started shaking because

I NOW QUALIFY FOR 2ND LOWER CLASS HONOURS!

Oh thank you!

Module Code Module Title Grade
GEM2901 Reporting Statistics in the Media B
MA1312 Calculus with Applications B+
PL3241 Personality & Individual Differences A-
PL3242 Health Psychology B-
PL3253 Psychobiological Perspectives on Emotion A+
SW1101E Introduction to Social Work A

CAP: 3.6

Health Psychology was a little disappointing with that B- but not too bad. I'm relieved with the GEM2901 Statistics module because I really thought I was going to screw it. Also extremely relieved with that math module which was supposed to be simple (and which it really was) but if you remember I screwed it up on the day itself because I had 2 papers on that day. I'm really surprised with SW1101 Social Work. I think the presentation and final paper's essay must have helped me quite a bit. I kind of expected a B+ for Personality Psychology though actually hoping for an A-, so that I actually got an A- is a pleasant surprise. Yes, I see your jaws dropping at that A+. That was very much expected actually because I got an A for mid-term and the finals' MCQ were very, very manageable.

6 modules in 1 semester is no joke, but I think the modules I took were pretty manageable, thankfully! After my CAP had dropped so much, it was good to see it rise up again. Wow, hard work really pays. I've never really understood that before.

Now I've got something to lose and the pressure will be back again next semester. This time round I won't let it drop!

Oh I forgot to say, now that my results have not battered my self-esteem/worth, I shall now approach the project my crush has assigned me and suffer a battering through there. At least looking at him is a joy while I suffer an inner battering.

No Social life

I must have more of a social life! I would probably have more of it if I didn't have this knee problem. Then I can go skating and running and whatever else which requires physical activity.

Ok, that was an excuse.

FYI, I don't like shopping or going to Karaoke. And truthfully, ever since I went to that skating session with Bao Ling, I have kind of fallen in love with skating. But I am really unable to skate for anything longer than an hour or so because my knee acts up so badly I actually limp. And I miss running. That day I went for a short jog. I went like 400m before my knee started hurting already. Dammit. 400m only! I use to do 2.4km without a problem (ok, maybe a little) and still be able to do more!

^#$%@#

Sob. My stamina is lousy, my muscles are all flabby, I'm cultivating a tummy, my legs are wobbly and I swim horribly. Ooh, that rhymes!

I have problems swimming freestyle and there's nobody to guide me!

Ok, that's all. Such an incoherent post!

The point of me logging in to blog is actually to say it's 12 hours to the release of exam results and I'm nervous and I have been telling people my crush is cute and capable. I'm not sure how the topic became my social life...

36 hours

It's about 36 hours to the release of my exam results and I'm really nervous.

This one decides whether I make or break 2nd lower Honours. I think there is a possibility I might just drop again. Sigh.

Some lessons really take a lot of money, don't they?

Interview; Hamster

Due for an interview in school this afternoon and I'm nervous.

Number of interviews I have ever gone through: 1.
--------------
Father hamster has yet found a new position and place to sleep in:

Vertically, between the glass and log.

We were wondering why he is sleeping in this most interesting position and I postulated that it might be because the weather has been rather warm lately and the glass is relatively cool. Oh yar, not to mention he likes weird positions. We have seen some of the 2nd batch of baby hamsters climb over him while he was sleeping like that, their foot in his eye and he did not even twitch!

Fourth paper (4/6)

Fourth paper, Psychobiological Perspectives on Emotions, finally finished. It was an alright paper, 80 MCQs, because the lecturer have to rush to Brazil for some conference and do not have much time to mark if it had been essays. The tough section of this module was during the mid-term test, 3 essays in lesser than 1 hour 45 minutes.

Anyway I was expecting to score for this module so any mistake in this MCQ exam made me very nervous. I think I have 10 possible wrongs.

Haha, I sound like I deserve a bashing, the way I'm saying it!

The last 2 papers, Social Work and Math are on the same day, this coming Tuesday. One in the morning, the other in the evening. After that I'm going home for a good sleep and I suppose to prepare for Handbells performance in the upcoming Arts Fest. Man, I haven't touched the bells ever since school started! Hope I don't pull the rest down too much during show.
