Happy Birthday

Happy Birthday to my friends who are born in July and August, those I remembered and those whose birthdays I forgot! Here's a birthday song for each of you, especially for Jeremy, whose birthday is today.

The Birthday Song - Corrine May

Heh, actually accidentally found this song and found it beautiful.

Daphnemaia's birthday

On the Monday that just passed, a small group of pingsters, gathered to celebrate Daphnemaia's (a.k.a. the real live Hello Kitty) nth birthday with a dinner at Swenson's. It was really a surprise for her, organized by Uzyn (creator of ping.sg) who sent out an email to some of us.

Dinner was at 7pm and some of them had reached earlier for the surprise element. When Daphne and Sek Ling (Uzyn's girlfriend, Daphne's friend, pingster. Why am I describing every other person?) reached Plaza Singapura, Adam told Sek Ling to bring Daphne to the Hello Kitty sale downstairs since not everybody has reached yet. Daphne was pleasantly distracted and bought for herself among other gifts, ahem, Hello Kitty underwear.

Hello Kitty needs Hello Kitty underwear, ok! By the way, check out the number of Hello Kitty presents Daphne got for her birthday. Items range from handphone accessory to keyboard.

I didn't reach there until 7.30pm when Daphne was already in the restaurant so I don't know how surprised she was to see 4 other very familiar people sitting together at a table in Swenson's.

Birthday girl, Daphne

Rinaz and Farinelli had to leave after a while - rinaz for her yoga session, Farinelli for home. It was a shame because I haven't talked to them for such a long time. Before they left, pictures with Daphne:

Rinaz and Daphne. No idea how chillycraps ended where he was

Daphne with Farinelli

In any case, it was fun meeting the pingsters again. We talked about various stuff, including cracking literally dirty jokes while we were eating. This is the classic joke by Adam that night:

There is a restaurant where beggars usually come in to beg for food. One day, a beggar came in and asked the person at the counter for a toothpick. The person gave it to him. A second beggar came in and asked for another toothpick. The person gave it to him. Soon, a third beggar came in and asked for a straw. Puzzled, the person asked the beggar, "The other two beggars before you asked for a toothpick, why did you ask for a straw?" The beggar replied, "Oh, because somebody vomitted outside and the two of them had already picked out all the solids, so I need a straw to drink up the fluid."

After that we just felt really nauseous.

Because it was running quite late, the birthday cake from Swenson's was brought out.

Daphne with birthday cake, looking very murderous with how she held the knife

The ice-cream cake was, as usual, very very hard:

Be sliced into pieces, you little piece of cake! ... Cut... cut... CUT already, you darn cake!

Farinelli, chillycraps, daphne, Sek Ling, me, Adam

Daphne (not exact words),

If the cake was thrown at me, it'd have bounced off my head!

Daphne at Swenson's waiter,

Your birthday cake very birthday-girl-unfriendly.

It reminded me of Jenny's birthday at Swenson's where we first encountered our first ever very hard birthday cake.

Uzyn, Adrian and Miccheng soon arrived to take the missing places of rinaz and farinelli. They sang the birthday song a second time then proceeded to try and bounce the cake off Daphne's face.
Uzyn, Daphne, Miccheng, Adrian

We tried the joke on the 3 of them but Adrian said he got puked on while on his diving trip. Apparently the person has marvellously good aim because it ended up right in his hair. As such, he was in no way grossed out. But I was feeling very, extremely, nauseous.

At the end, Daphne sent us an SMS thanking us and saying that she was very happy. Glad she enjoyed herself!

Anyone for a toothpick and straw?

YS: I very fat leh. When I hit my stomach, the fats wobble like sea waves like that... hahaha...

Dear Yiang Shan,

On your 18th birthday, I wish your fats won't wobble like sea waves anymore.
Happy Birthday!

Ruifang's 21st birthday celebration

Attended one of the funniest birthday celebrations yesterday. Ruifang's turning 21 very very soon, in less than a week.

I was the first to arrive there although it was already 15 minutes past meeting time. Ruifang arrived next, sporting a very nice haircut.

"My face look very round hor?! Maybe if I do this then face looks slimmer..."

She asked me to delete the photo above. Hehehe! =P

Very, very slowly, people started to arrive. YZ came from work, in full black attire - Shirt, pants, shoes, blazer, watch, bag, mascara - everything was black.

RF, me, YZ

The red shirt is the gift they got me for my 21st birthday.

8pm. This is about 3/5 of the number of people who were suppose to arrive:

Halfway through conversation, RF's friend-in-striped-tee doing that "what the fuck" hand-sign. Eh I thought this hand sign was only known in ping.sg? Is it universal or something. RF's friend-in-orange-tee posing at the back. I don't know what is Frankie doing.

Frankie, Friend-in-orange-tee, Friend-in-striped-tee

As you would be able to tell, I have since forgotten all their names. Heh. In fact I forgot their names 30 seconds after they told me.

RF's female friend 1, Frankie, Friend-in-orange-tee

Friend-in-striped-tee and RF's female friend 2

I only remember this very pretty girl's name - Amelia.
I think.

Top of Gui Zhi's head

Two of the dishes:
YZ's some-salmon-dish

Her salmon was bigger than mine, so I was warming her dish with my camera flash.

Gui Zhi's some-grilled-dory-thingy

Had some finger food after that while waiting for 4 others to arrive. We couldn't order heavy desserts because there was the cake later on which RF didn't know about. Gui Zhi called the friend-in-orange-tee on the handphone although they were only 2 metres away from each other, to discuss some matters regarding the cake and finger food because they didn't want RF to hear. I was very blur, didn't know the cake was a surprise and was asking why are they talking on the phone.

Finally the staff of essential brew brought the cake up and we started singing only "Ha-------" (pronounced "heh", the first syllable of "happy"). When we lunged into the song, another group of people at the other end of the area started singing with us. Because both our group and their group are situated at extreme ends, it seemed as if the whole level of diners were singing. Oh this group of people is somehow related to our group I suppose. Ruifang and some of them with us knew one of them in the other group.

Immediately after we finished the song for RF, another cake was brought up for another another group of people, tucked away in a little corner. So we sang them a birthday song too. =D

"No no! You must make a wish!"

Hope she had an enjoyable early birthday celebration. Glad that she likes the scarf we got for her.

Cake was fantastic. A layer of chocolate fudge on top.

By the time I finished the cake, I could not stand the air in my stomach (a side-effect of gastric pains) anymore and went to the toilet to let it out and also to shit in the process. By the way, our table was directly in front of the toilet and I kept seeing the inside of the toilet.

And the group of people in the room in Essential Brew were making funny sounds. Male go "woo-woo" then after that a female screamed. People at our table started thinking all over the place. Tsk, young people these days! *shakes head*

----------------
I walked the entire of Vivocity yesterday for 4 hours while waiting for 6pm to come so I could head to Holland V. Legs very tired.

Was Plateau Serenade a dish at Essential Brew? Had it once with pingsters at an outing there, but when I asked them again they say they don't serve the dish. Hmm. Why? For then only?

Holland Road Shopping Centre, though small, has some very nice shops inside. Some of the prices there are slightly lower than other places. Others are not.

Birthday party (without photos) - 29th September 2007

Figured I can still write an entry without the photos. Photos are but only captured memories, there are still those inside my head and yours, though we can't print them out in hardcopy or let others see. Oh well, I was dressed horribly that day anyway, so no loss =P If anybody took any photos using their own camera or phone do you all mind sending them to me, thank you!

So 30th September Sunday was the actual day, celebration was on 29th September. Woke up at 10am+ after a very busy night before and without any breakfast, because there was hardly anything on the table to eat, rushed off to NTUC to do some last-minute grocery shopping. Most of the items I was expecting my aunt to bring over later in the afternoon or they were already in the fridge, taking up a lot of space. Got whatever I needed to get and squashed all I could in the fridge, in the meantime getting a very very impromptu arm muscle training.

Then was busy sorting out the good clams from the bad ones at home when my mother called my phone and asked me to get down to the jewellery shop now. So when I got there, covered in perspiration and hands smelling of seafood, I was asked which necklace I like - the nice flower one or the classy diamond one. Truthfully, I didn't quite like both, but I didn't like the watch the flower necklace came with so I chose the classy diamond one which was a full $100 more and father paid for it. Well they wanted to get me something, so... and the bag that comes with it was very appropriate for the wedding I attended in KL last weekend. Heh.

Initially wanted to do some homework but there was no time. Started washing bowls and utensils. By 3pm I was starting to feel nervous already and bringing chairs over (from grandmother's and cousin's place) and setting up powerpoints for the steamboats. Mother was in the kitchen preparing the food and my father and I were busy clearing up the place. Disagreement brought over from over the week to that day on whether to use disposable items or not. 4pm, rearranged table position and Father brought the huge table over.

By then I was carrying around so many chairs that my arms were aching terribly and my hands would not still enough to push my spectacles up my nose bridge without first hypnotising me.

Could see the tired, exasperated and fed-up expression on my mother's face while she was cutting the food. Felt so apologetic for making them so busy and she was not answering me. Father told me halfway through that I should not have done this, that there are a lot of restrictions. I got so upset I gave up retorting and just silently prepared everything. By then I was so physically and mentally tired from the past week's business and this morning's stuff to do that I just agreed that it was the worst thing to do, and that catering was probably the best thing, which probably is. I desperately needed encouragement and a little faith in me but all I had from my family were disbelief and discouragement.

I just wanted to do something a little different from normal, is it so bad? I just wanted people to remember the day they came to my house, that it was different in some way and next time I can look back and remember what I did, what went right and what went wrong and know that I went ahead to do something (maybe) disastrously different. It wasn't very disastrously different from a catering in the end because some of my friends still ended up in cliques in my room and outside and all that. Maybe I should have catered. Or maybe I should have started planning a little earlier, before the very-busy-recess-week. Most of all, I should have gotten more goddamn huge tables.

Lesson 1: If anybody wants to try steamboat for an event, get many huge tables. Getting people to sit around a table and talk more actually works - ping.sg people and some of my other friends who came earlier and sat together at that table actually ended up talking and sticking together. Hmm, I hope it's because of the table. Haha.
While for my other friends I was very apologetic to have them eat separately from each other at the other smaller one where my family was sitting. I would have loved for them to sit together. I think they ended up bored and stayed in the room.

Finally, finally went to take the cake at 5pm.

YY came at about 6pm, when I was about to finally head into the bathroom to bathe. Was utterly drenched in perspiration. There was no time to epilate my pits, so I wore a short-sleeved shirt instead of sleeveless. People started coming at about 7pm and we took quite some time to get the food out and distribute between the two tables. Ho! I starved my guests! =P

By some strange coincidence, some of my friends knew or have seen each other in school before so they started talking, which was nice.

Was standing in front of Sekling when I raised my arm and was indicating something and she started laughing. She saw my unepilated armpits.

So Liyuan, Adin, Jenny, Sean, uzyn, NTT, xizor, adrian and sekling started eating first because they were the first to arrive.

Lesson 2: Get enough tables to accomodate your guests so they won't have to wait and starve for others to finish. Which is basically the same as lesson 1.

Then Yizhen, Ruifang, Pearlin, MZ, Baoling, Hongyi, Zhiwei and Yee Heng started coming in batches. All say wait for each other to come first then eat, especially YZ, RF and HY, all wanted to wait for LY. Tsk tsk!

MZ and BL were seated alone at my family table and I was very apologetic that I mostly left them alone the rest of the time. I found myself ignoring people I'm basically closer with on the belief that they'll entertain themselves, a fault on my part. YZ they all were very good at entertaining themselves though, using my camera, with the card which is now spoilt. They took some lovely pictures of themselves which I am secretly glad were destroyed.

Hongyi was seated on a chair outside, entertaining himself (don't think dirty!) with the fan blowing in his face. I kept on abandoning him for other people, not sitting for more than a minute beside him. Each time I returned to the seat, I'd already forgotten what we were talking about.

Zhiwei and Yee Heng were the only two AJ percussionists to turn up in the end. Jeremy fell ill and Nicholas was too caught up with his project meetings to be able to turn up. Jeremy texted me a really nice and apologetic message while Nicholas called me personally the night before, telling me the entire story of how he has lousy project mates, no doubt sincerely wanting me to know that he wasn't lying when he said he really could not make it at the last minute. I believed him of course, but thought it was all very funny =D

I don't have a lot of things to talk about with Zhiwei and Yee Heng, but it was nice to just sit with them for a bit. I have known Zhiwei for about 8 years already, and we have played together in the same section for 6 years, so there is a certain type of bond and understanding built somehow, I guess. Yee Heng is still as crazy as ever!

While I was busy making sure that everybody was eating (or getting massaged, ahem), Adrian very nicely wanted me to down a small glass of Cointreau, which I had no idea what it was except for the fact that it has a 40% alcohol concentration, on an empty stomach.

I turned to my father and told him they were bullying his daughter, and he said,

Drink lah! Won't drunk one!

Very nicely done. So what could I do? I drank lor! Sipped bit by bit until they said it was easier to get drunk this way so I gulped what was left down. Adrian then drank another glass in response to mine - in one gulp. Dammit, I feel so inferior. The alcohol made me a little giddy after that but I was otherwise fine after eating.

Ate with the XMS percussionists, Hong Yi, my father, mom (who was mostly absent) and auntie Tina, who I could see was very amused by how we were trying to squeeze men-related-information from RF and YZ. Those two are males-magnets, I tell you!

Uzyn, NTT, Adrian, xizor and Sekling went off early after dinner to attend Halo 3's some party.

After the very fast cake-cutting, song-singing (very embarrassing yet ego-boosting) and photo-taking (of which I would like to remind all that they are now all gone), some of my friends actually stayed back quite long. I was really surprised. Thought they would all rush off once the cake was cut, which I was secretly hoping they'd do because I was exhausted. But it was pleasant to see them still here, sitting around and chatting, although somehow my chair keeps disappearing when I stand up to ensure that people around weren't too bored or something.

Adrian called at about 11pm to urge me to go down to The Butter Factory for drinks, saying that I have to party because it is my 21st. Then he bloody exaggerated and said that xizor was puking in the toilet. I knew he was exaggerating because xizor later on messaged me and confirmed that he was absolutely sane. Rejected him because my friends were still here and I was exhausted. I don't like clubbing anyway - can't dance for nuts.

Around 11.30pm I finally saw HY, Liyuan, Adin, Jenny and Sean to the interchange and later on Pearl and the rest. Ruifang stayed in my room, waiting for her-supper-guy to bring her out to supper, where she watched me opened my gifts.

The gifts were lovely and really useful. I have already thanked you all personally and if I have not, here's a thank you for it!

The squeaking pig stuffed toy is now sitting on my bed, an utterly cute little thing, squeaking when I talk to it (because I squeeze it). It's a gift from the AJ percussionists. I've already started using most of the other presents because they are really very useful. HA! That sounds so funny. The chocolates are so nice that I keep staring at them, not quite daring to eat them. Heh.

Anyway the clearing up was done throughout the whole dinner by the maids and I didn't have to wash anything in the end. Luck!

Cost-wise? My aunt actually sponsored for most of the ingredients, my father forced me to allow him to pay for the other ingredients and I paid for the cake.

Yeah, that's basically it, my birthday (without the photos). Upset that some people could not turn up in the end but very happy that a lot of people still did and my family helped a lot. It wasn't perfect, but I hope it was smooth enough. My arms ached for couple of days after that and I was still hypnotizing myself.

So it was done, a steamboat 21st birthday. And if nobody else has done it before me, remember I was the first!

Trying to load birthday photos; Off to m'sia

It's 4.03am. I'm trying to load the photos from the camera onto my computer but it is not working. First needed to install software, then it occurred to me to just use a card reader but somehow it is not reading right. Don't know what's wrong.

Was up at 8.30am yesterday morning, lazed until 10am and am awake till now. 18 hours already.

At this point in time, there seems to be something wrong with the card reader, my computer is giving out funny noises and I'm very very tired. Keep typing stuff wrongly.

4 hours from now I'd be on a coach to Kuala Lumpur for 4 days 3 nights, the last day of which is the point of the trip - attend my father's friend's daughter's wedding. I don't even know who she is!

Oh I brought my short short skirt.

My sincere apologies that I still am unable to load the photos thus unable to blog about my birthday. Will do so when I am back, promise. Provided the card does not blow up or something.

In the meantime I'll be doing paper blogging, which means you all can't read anything until I return home on Monday (or unless I can get my hands on a computer with internet access in KL). I have school on Monday afternoon so after 6pm is probably the earliest I can blog. Which means this blog will be stagnant until then. =(

You all may ignore this place for the weekend, but don't forget me, ok! Although it has been pretty boring here.

Oh sheesh, when do I ever say things like that.

Have to sleep. Everything's swaying about me and my parents are going to come in soon to ask why the hell am I still awake at 4.14 am.

See you all on Monday, 8th October! Singapore timing 6pm. That's GMT +8.

Pre-party - 4 hours

I fear nobody turns up. I fear everything will go wrong. Why am I going to so much trouble for a mere birthday. Need some encouragement!

Ah, think of the fact that I will see my friends! I'm working for them! It's not a birthday, it's just dinner and a get-together.

Did I mention how pretty the table of girls opposite us at California Pizza Kitchen were?

Do I have batteries for the camera?

Frazzled, frazzled.

Pre-party - 6 hours

6 hours before party starts.

Parents got me this damn classy silver necklace with diamonds which comes with a Drusilla New York bag and wallet. I am very sorry to say that I do not know the brand. Tried googling it but all I got was Drusillas Park and the wikipedia on Drusilla. Well, it is a very interesting name.

Went grocery shopping for a few food items and it hits me that I have very big-eater friends coming and there do not seem to be enough food.

My hands stink of that clam smell because I have been sorting them out.

Need to epilate my armpits so that you all won't puke when I raise my arms and you see the small bush underneath. Just kidding.

So much school work to be done and not enough time.

Nervous, anxious, freaking out. Wish I did not have to sleep so that I can finish whatever I can in time. I can sit at the computer for more than 6 hours straight, writing an essay or doing up presentation or something.

Plastic plates are so non-environmental-friendly. My mother, FYI, do not see the point of recycling and using ceramic plates. She pushed a pile of plastic plates into my hands and told me to use those later then freaking throw them away. I feel so uncomfortable. I mean the other reason why I wanted steamboat besides that it was fun was because it is supposed to be relatively environmentally-friendly without the plastic and paper plates. Dammit, if I have to wash the ceramic/plastic plates then I will!

Pre-party woes

I look okay on the outside, but I'm quite a wreck on the inside. I have got tons of work uncompleted and I really would like to sleep. My party's tomorrow and most of the stuff are prepared - thank goodness for my wonderful aunt. Now I only hope people actually do turn up tomorrow at about the same time.

Actually I just hope people do turn up. I've never realized how scary it is to prepare and prepare then fear that people start calling you to say that they can't attend. Last night my junior Jiaxing told me he is going to attend a mutual friend's birthday party instead. Then NTT also MSNed me to say that he is on standby on Saturday so might not be able to turn up. On Tuesday, CJ asked me if my party's on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, then told me he cannot attend. Just moments ago, an AJ percussionist Nicholas called to tell me he might not be able to make it because his project group just scheduled another meeting tomorrow which might drag. I understand they are all valid reasons and it's really alright, just that it starts to strike you that perhaps you have prepared a little too much food, too many tables, too many chairs... Most importantly, however, people I've asked to turn up are those I would really like to celebrate this (oh-so-dammit-joyous) occasion with, spend some time with, catch up with and simply to thank them for having made a difference in my life, so I can't help but feel a little disappointed. For some, I wonder when will be the next time I will see them again. At another mutual friend's birthday? And when is that? A couple of weeks? Months? Years?

Oh so touching, I will make everybody eat more tomorrow. Don't resist me if I try to put raw fish, chicken, mushroom, fishballs, vegetables and whatever-is-available on your plate before cooking it.

If you are coming tomorrow and by some strange twist of fate (I forgot to tell you that details, but that don't mean you are not important ok. I simply kept pushing back the time to remind people - blame my sociology sex research) you do not know yet the time and place, it's 6.30pm at my house (email or twitter or SMS me for the address) and I'm having steamboat. Steamboat is only fun when there are lots and lots of people so I hope people do turn up at approximately the same time. If there aren't enough people to fill up a table I'll starve you all until there are enough people ok.

Oh come on, I'm so nice, how can I bear to starve you all. If you all wait willingly and say you are really very full because you had lunch not long ago then how can I starve you?

Alright, full of lame shit. I promise I'll blog better stuff when next week's over.

Busy; Birthday note; Video

Apologies for the lack of updates. I'm far too busy with school work (and feeling guilty over having done something really stupid), making preparations for the steamboat for next Saturday and meeting project mates at 9.30am in the morning at Orchard, to be able to do proper blog posts. Please don't give up on me!

Oh, those who are coming next Saturday for my birthday, would you please leave a comment if you see this and tell me, if I have not asked you, whether or not you have any problems with steamboat and if there are any foods you can't/don't eat/allergic to. Please do not be shy about telling me your food preferences, dismiss allergies as nothing much or consider it too troublesome for me because a party/gathering/whatever's focus is still about its participants (a.k.a my guests). So tell me and I'll see what I can do about it. I currently have a few friends who are allergic to prawns and a few who told me they eat anything except for the steamboat itself, the table and Stephanie.

Since I'm quite busy right now, here's a video done by AgentXPQ titled "Tales of mere Existence: I'm Not Going To Think About Her". An accurate and interesting video depicting what goes on in the mind when one has just broken up with his/her boy/girlfriend or simply when you miss somebody. He has made a few videos around the title of "Tales of mere existence" which is, I guess, basically the theme of everyday life. Check it out if you want to. Enjoy!

Computer on holiday; Birthday

My computer went on a holiday.

Ok, my computer is spoilt. I'll try blogging from school or elsewhere when I can. Initially thought that I can kop my brother's computer for this week or so, but I woke up this morning to the horrifying sight of both my siblings lounging in front of the TV at 9am.

It's school holiday week. Damn, why did my computer break down during school holiday week. And when was there ever a week of school holiday in the middle of school term?

By the way, my birthday is coming up. I feel quite apologetic having to announce this to my friends and to talk about it here because birthday means have to buy present, means my batch the people are really going broke after having gone to so many parties. I would tell you all to come to the celebration without the need to buy a present, but norms dictate that it would be very awkward for you all to go to one without getting something. But look on the bright side! My birthday's nearing the end of the year, meaning the year we have to spend lots and lots of money on our many (I hope) friends is nearly over soon.

Of course then after that it's the year to spend lots and lots of money on our juniors. Well, let's think about that later.

Seriously though, if friends I invite would agree to turn up for my birthday, it already is a gift in itself because it means I matter to them enough for them to want to celebrate this (oh-so-joyous) occasion with me, and it would also indicate that these are the group of people I have not irked sufficiently big-hearted enough to have put up with my nonsense all these years/this time.

Ok, the last sentence should get most people to come.

Alright, so some will come for the food, but I will very gallantly overlook that.

Pearlin already asked me what I want for my birthday, so I decided that to prevent all of you from getting headaches and wasting smses on things such as "eh, what to get for steph ah?", "I don't know leh, what does she want?", "I don't know also leh. What does she like?", I will put up a wishlist, ok? Or something akin to a wishlist. I don't know, will see how it goes.

Do you all think you all can get me a good-looking guy dressed in army uniform? To keep =D
Ok ok, I was just kidding.

Jeremy's 21st birthday

Happy 21st Birthday, Jeremy!

You're a great friend to have,
a great musician to play with,
and a budding artist.
It is a pleasure to have known you,
played and studied with you.
Ok, maybe not the study part. =P
In any case, here's wishing you good health
and, cliche as it sounds,
May your dreams come true.

Adult already, remember don't procrastinate too much hor!

It was Jeremy's 21st birthday party today. His birthday really is on Monday. Met YZ at her house, which was the block right beside his, first before going over together. We were trying to decide what to write on the nice perfumed-and-spotted-with-little-hearts-here-and-there bear card. By the way, I bought the card from shop "Specky 'n' Frenz". Cards have horrible english, but design was too interesting to resist. YZ said later that I was screaming in her room. I refuse to admit to that. I just happen to have a loud voice. Feel embarrassed for the possibility of having shocked YZ's grandmother and aunt by being very loud in her room. I hope they don't ban her from meeting me in the future.

One other thing to mention before moving on to the birthday party. YZ speaks to her grandmother entirely in Chinese while her grandmother speaks to YZ entirely in hokkein. I found it immensely amusing and was grinning all the way. I spoke to her grandmother in halting hokkein. Been a long time since I used a dialect properly. There's something special about speaking in a dialect that I really like. Maybe it's because a lot of young people have since lost the knowledge of a dialect, or maybe it is just me being nostalgic.

50 minutes of excruciating pain, caused by deciding what to write on the card and conversing with Pearlin on the phone, later, we finally headed to Jeremy's block. His party covered 3 levels - the void deck where the food is, and the other 2 levels of his house. I saw AJ band people there but didn't opt to join them partly because I didn't want YZ to feel left out and also partly because I don't mix quite well with them. Instead, I waved a brief hi to them, got our food, very accidentally found my class people at a table behind a pillar and joined them. Am glad that YZ wasn't bored by our incessant chatter. She said that she was entertained by them, which I could understand because they were really very funny.

Ping Yong: Actually I once tried to read the dictionary.
us: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.................
Ping Yong: But I gave up in the middle of "A".
Cheston: You actually read till the middle of "A"! You say "Z", I still can accept, but section "A" is quite big leh!
us: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.................
Ping Yong: But after I read, I've forgotten everything.
Cheston: hahaha, yar, I can tell, because you haven't used more "A" words when talking to me.

Jie Qi, Jiemin and Pearlin finally arrived and I hung around with them.

JQ: ok, we give this (at this point she indicates the number $28 with her fingers, one hand 2 fingers, the other 3)
Pearlin: this lah (indicates some number with her fingers)
YZ: like that ah? (indicates more numbers with her fingers)
me: (Blinking rapidly) oi, can you all slower or not? I need to count the fingers leh.
JQ: ...
JQ: Wah lao, you speak a different language lah! You're not supposed to count! (shows me the fingers again)
me: (Looks blankly for a bit) Oh, 28 ah? Haha, I thought is 5...

Jeremy finally herded us up to his place. We first headed up to his room to place Pearlin's stuff and was greeted by a whole sea of AJ band faces in his very tiny room.

Individually, the people in this group are mostly nice people, but as a group, they are really quite intimidating. Group cognition. Sometimes I am very irritated by them because they have the habit of excluding people who are not with them. I think I simply don't fit in, not only with them but also with AJ band as a whole.

Anyway, I very quickly entered and exited the room a couple of times to put and retrieve some stuff (including the large card) without making eye contact with anybody except for Jocelyn who was helping me. Then the 4 of us settled down on the stairs and assured Jeremy that we were very comfortable where we were, as long as nobody goes down and nobody goes up. Only problem now is that we became our own obstacles when wanting to walk down the stairs. Ok, only I was walking around, so they were my obstacles. Settled some gift stuff with Jiaxing and Elim who were both not present at the party and then spent most of the time watching Campus Superstar. There was a lot of dissatisfaction about the young boy winning.

Finally it was time to take pictures with the birthday boy. Weird thing was that we took pictures before we sang the birthday song. Anyway the cake was awesome. It was not just one cake, it was many cakes...

... many cup-cakes.

FYI, all of them were made by his mother and decorated by his sister. Awesome creativity in the family. His mother do sells cakes too, so if you would like to have those cupcakes for some event or a cake for a birthday, you might want to consider contacting them. Heh, but I'm afraid you would have to go through me first. Not that I'm earning fees but because I have no idea how to contact the mother directly or what is the usual route of communication. I'll simply tell Jeremy, who will then ask his mother. So, email me!

I am in 3 of the pictures they took - SPU, class and band.

Then we sang him his birthday song. The particular group of AJ band people were all stuck upstairs and didn't come down to sing. Instead, they sang upstairs and Kailin took a video of them that way. I thought it was really quite rude of them and who knows it might have hurt Jeremy in a way, but that's not for me to say because if he think that it's fine then so be it. It is his house, his room and his party.

It was 11pm when we decided to leave. Had a great time there with Pearl, YZ, Jie Qi and Jiemin. Best thing is we didn't take a single picture together using our phones. Great. I'll only meet Pearl and YZ again only don't know how long later.

Kailin, Jeremy's girlfriend, was exhausted. It was all over her face. It was so sweet of her to help out. When I left, I told her to take care and rest well, then told Jeremy that he had better repay her. He replied yes of course, will do it now and then proceeded to hug her =D

Gosh, I'm so envious of them! Yet as I look at them, I realize that I am unable to envision myself in that kind of scenario, as part of a normal couple. It seems so natural to be the way I am now that once again, the idea of being in a relationship thrills yet scares me immensely. Yes there is the yearning to have somebody special at last, somebody I can depend on (does it actually even exist?) but I am also oddly glad that I am single, free of the need to deal with the complicatedness of the dynamics between a couple. Maybe, just maybe, I'm meant to be like this.

Now I'm home and blogging and it's 2.30am. Sigh. I sleep later and later every weekend.

Zhi Xiang's birthday

Some birthday parties tire me out.

Went for Zhi Xiang's 21st birthday party at his condo this evening. I know about 80% of the people there but I felt very uncomfortable. These people are my JC band friends. Think I've said before, I don't feel a part of them. The moment I stepped into the function room, my mask was on and it was there until I left the place.

Thanks to Caren for her company, Frankie for his presence and Eric.

Party was actually quite good compared to some others I've been to. Kudos to Zhi Xiang and Jeremy.

It was a 3 hour party. For 3 hours I kept wondering when it'd end. Up till now am awake for 12 hours but highlights of the day? Meeting CJ for 0.5 hours and chatting to Eric for 10 minutes. A mere 40 minutes out of 12 hours. Wonder what I've been doing the rest of the time.

I rocked. Sat and rocked. Front back front back left right left right. Constant rhythmic pattern. Unable to stop. Rocking comforts me.

Buskers; piano+guitar; Photo

I don't know why these buskers are here just outside Hougang Mall.

I do know, however, that even if we have seen these people at Orchard, we can still be very fascinated by them. For instance, the writer here stood there for 5 minutes, staring at them standing motionless while members of the public put $2 notes into the box every 30 seconds just to watch them move. Oh the bird in their hands really flaps when they move and stops when they stop. Somehow it seems very good money - stand there and let people ogle at you (fully clothed, too) and they pay to watch you move.

-------------------------
Do you think anybody wants to buy this:

I bought it and assembled it and now I have no idea where to put it. But it's so pretty I kind of can't bear to part with it.

Last night at Kim's birthday party we got bored.

Pearl and I

Taken using my very low resolution secondary camera.

Do you know that there are leaves engraved into the pavements around the chalets at Changi.

Fascinating.

Happy April Fools

Happy April Fools' Day!

Unlike SOME people like dk whose blog unfortunately got hacked by some cat named "aprilfool" spelt backwards, and ping.sg who also very unfortunately got hacked by, I suspect, the owner of ping.sg, my blog shall remain as it is.

Because today is LY's birthday!
Happy Birthday Liu Yin! Wishing you a happy 21st with many happy days ahead of you! Legally an adult already, that's why have a special type of cake for you. =D Just kidding!

I don't like April Fools Day. I get tricked too easily.

HY's 21st birthday celebration

Hui Yee's 21st birthday celebration at Aranda Country Club.

I was on bus 58 and it drove pass this fenced area which had a huge pile of sand inside. The sand looked smooth and it reminded me terribly of a desert. I wondered how it would feel to slide down that mountain of sand. It was all uncovered though and I wondered what would happen when it rained.

When I reached Pasir Ris interchange, I almost got an orgasm there and then. There was a whole bunch of army guys standing right where I alighted!! In their uniforms and everything! Haha, I had to stop myself from grinning and staring at them. It was such a treat! Not one soldier, not two, but a WHOLE FREAKING GROUP!! Haha, sorry, I'm very excited even thinking of it. =D Then right, then right, later on got one of them run past me! Haha, I like! Drools... Haha... Ok, this is so crazy. Back to the Country Club...

First time I played "asshole dai-dee". Darn fun! Ended up being the asshole twice, prostitute once, commoner twice, queen once, king once.

Everything was alright until the photo-taking session when somebody popped the party popper without warning, right beside MZ and extremely near me. The contents kind of floated into my vision for a bit and I thought he had popped it beside my eye or something. They popped it not once, not twice, but thrice.

I was thinking, is 21st really that important?
